<p><span style="color: #000000;">The first calculation you need to do is to determine your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate).</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000;">Once you have determined the amount of calories you should eat to maintain your current weight with your current activity level you can determine the amount of calories you need to cut (by either dieting, exercising or a combination of both) to lose weight.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">A pound of fat contains 3500 calories, so if you want to lose 1 pound a week you will want to cut 500 calories a day from your maintenance weight calorie value. For example if you currently consume 2100 calories a day without any weight loss then you will want to reduce the calorie intake to 1600 calories to lose one pound a week.</span></p>
